The vermouth is a flavoured liqueur with herbs, based on good quality neutral wine, a touch of absinthe and wormwood and other bitter and tonic spices. It has a characteristic aroma that gives it an elegance for a cocktail or aperitif.
Its origin is found in Europe, although it has spread all over the world. The vermouth can be classified in two types: white and black. The black vermouth has its origin in Italy and it is sweeter. The white one, of French origin, is dryer and has a higher alcoholic graduation.
The proper mix of botanics (roots, plants, flowers and spices) is the key to the aromatization of good vermouth. There are hundreds of products to macerate this liquor. Each trademark usually uses between 50 and 80 different ingredients to make this drink. This is the reason why the vermouth is one of the drinks with a widest range of nuances, flavours and scents.
Its characteristic golden colour is provided by sweeteners such as sugar and caramel. In Catalonia, the vermouth production has been traditionally located in Reus (Tarragona) from where this beverage it is exported worldwide. Did you know that there is a Museum of Vermouth in Reus?

Fontalia: a vermouth made in Bellmunt del Priorat (Tarragona). It is a more youthful view of vermouth, very suitable for all tastes and especially for the cocktails.
Fresh notes of aromatic herbs, good intensity in the mouth and great balance between bitter and sweet notes. Ideal to combine with ginger beer, ginger ale or black beer.
Espinaler: it is the result of a unique recipe based on high quality white wine. The delicate and elegant maceration with aromatic herbs, such as Artemisia vulgaris, the Cretan dikina and Kina, gives it a unique bouquet.
Red: red ruby vermouth with tile shades. Sweet, bright and with an intense and fresh aroma to oregano, mint and caramel.
White: is a pale-yellow colour with shades of emerald, bright and with an intense aroma and flavour, with notes of saffron, mint and vanilla.
Noilly Prat: made in the south of France using the best white wines. Some of these wines are selectively aged in oak barrels and softly infused with aromatic herbs and spices to create its unique taste.
With spicy notes of saffron, clove and cocoa beans. Perfect fresh with a touch of orange or in cocktails.
Yzaguirre: it is made following the traditional method of the old houses of producers born at the feet of the Italian Alps. Its exclusive formula combines circa 80 herbs and spices to give it its so special touch.
Black: intense aroma with notes of aromatic herbs and spices. Soft balsamic touches. Good aromatic intensity in the mouth, very well balanced with acidity. Long aftertaste slightly bitter and intense.
Rose: cherry red colour, it is a light and sophisticated vermouth. Delicate aromas of caramel and herbs, with hints of mint. Refreshing and very soft in the mouth.
Reserve: very aromatic, soft and pleasant to the palate, with notes of wood, herbs and spices that reminds us the ripe fruit. Initial taste in the mouth very balanced and tasty, in perfect harmony with the acidity.
Perucchi: of intense golden colour with ruby tonalities, it is elaborated with the mixture of great wines without any preservatives or antioxidants. Aged for 4 years in oak barrels.
Intense aroma, delicate with oak finishes and nuts. Soft and pleasant composition. In the mouth is balanced, slightly bitter. Soft to the palate, exceptional pace.
El Bandarra: elaborated by Casa Berger in Sant Miquel d’Olèrdola, macerating its white wine with more than 50 herbs extracts, flowers, botanicals and natural spices such as clove, cinnamon, vanilla, cardamom and bitter orange.
Highlights its mahogany colour with orange reflections. In the nose provides aromas of liquorice, citrus and clove touches and in the mouth, has a very smooth and sweet entrance, with a gentle, light and persistent aftertaste.
Martini: an Italian icon. Elaborated since 1863 with a selection of the region’s herbs that together with the caramel provides its scarlet tone.
Red: in the nose, the bitter nuances of the herbs are completed with the sweetness of the sugar. When tasting it, it leaves a bittersweet experience. The finishing of wormwood accentuates its aromatic finish touch.
White: the smell is a combination of aromatic herbs and vanilla. Lightly fruity, smooth and delicate taste.
Antica formula: elaborated with white wines coming from Romania, Puglia and Sicily. Wines of average graduation to avoid exalting the spices, herbs and roots that make up the secret formula of the house, along with its own production processes.
Of shiny brown colour with amber veins. In the nose, the vanilla is accompanied by notes of spices, citrus and nuts: almonds, raisins and clove. In the mouth, round, rich and vanilla taste that incorporates the olfactory note and is happily combined with the notes of bitter orange, dates, cocoa beans and saffron.
