The Mexican Mule is known popularly and in a funny way as “The Donkey”. This is a variation with tequila of the famous Moscow Mule, elaborated with Vodka.
Ther are two versions of the origin of the Moscow Mule. Some experts talk about a meeting of friends in the bar of the Chatham Hotel, in New York, in the 40s of last century: Jack Morgan, president of Cock’n’Bull Products and owner of the Cock ‘n’ Bull Restaurant; John G. Martin, president of G.F. Heublein Brothers Inc, of Hartford; and the thrid, Rudolph Kunett, president of Pierre Smirnoff, the vodka división of Heublein. Letting their imagination create, they came up with the mitxure of the vokda with the ginger beer and a touch of lemon. Several theys after they batpized the mixing with the name Moscow Mule.
A second version not so romantic but more practical, refers to Wes Price, Morgan’s bartender, more plausible because considers the barman skills to do a balanced and flavoured mixture. In this story, the cocktail was born because of the need of getting rid of a big stock of Vodka Smirnoff and ginger beer.
There are other versions of this famous cocktail, the best known is the one elaborated with English gin called London Mule.
As characteristic and distinctive elements of the Mule we find two main actors:
Juice of lime
Mint leaves and
Mexican Mule: for the most daring who still want to be surprised. Fresh, spicy and very savory.
