Alphonse Gabriel Capone, aka Al Capone, will be the protagonist of March’s monthly cocktail in Torre Rosa.
According to history, the Southside fizz was the preferred drink of Al Capone, boss of organized crime dominating the southside of Chicago. The gin imported by his rivals on the Northside of Chicago, was soft and generally consumed with ginger ale. However, the gin that the group of Al Capone was smuggling had a rougher edge (with less quality) and needed the addition of more ingredients to be appetizing, in order to hide the awful original taste. Hence the Southside Fizz was born.
At Torre Rosa we add egg whites for texture and we top it with soda, being the result a fresh cocktail, with a low alcoholic degree, always using premium ingredients.
The fizz cocktails are a family of drinks composed of a distillate of any kind, a citric ingredient and topped with carbonated water.
The first appearance of those cocktails dates back to the late 19th century, when the golden age of cocktails was prevailing. Back then the quality of the distillates was so poor that other ingredients had to be added to the drinks in order their sharpness and unpleasant taste.
This concoction will transport you back to the 20s of the past century, where glamour was mixed with the risk of the forbidden. Come and enjoy it at Torre Rosa.
