Sling Bathtub, cocktail of the month of February

Making a cocktail with gin and serving it in a bathtub is not a coincidence. In the crazy 20s of the last century, during the time of the Prohibition in the United States, the prohibition of alcohol consumption sharpened the ingenuity of those who made drinks clandestinely at home, and thus, the bathtub gin appears. Its taste was frankly bad, but it was the best way to get it. It was called like this not because it was made in a bathtub but because water needed to be taken out of the bathtub to make it.

In Torre Rosa there was also a bathtub at the same time of the Prohibition. If you have visited us recently, surely the impressive image of the new bar that looks on the first floor has caught your attention. Here was the original bathtub of the house, in front of the window and with a small fireplace next to it to provide heat.

A cocktail served in small ceramic bathtubs

The cocktail chosen is one of the so-called Sling, an old category of drinks that has evolved over time. They are defined as cocktails bitters, usually made with gin and completed with some liquor. We serve the new Sling Bathtub in small custom bathtubs created by ceramist Aurora Muñoz, soul of Biscuit de Cerámica. It is presented with a surprising violet foam that anticipates a whole bath of flavour.

Portobello Road is a fantastic old-style gin that we accompany with sweet liqueurs of fresh herbal flavour and elderflower. We also add pineapple and lime juices to soften the recipe and provide the right citrus to get an exceptional drink.

Formula Sling Bathtub

in cocktail shaker:
3 cl. Portobello Gin
3 cl. St-Germain liquor
3 cl. Bénédictine liquor
6 cl. pineapple juice
2,5 cl. lime juice

We serve it in a small ceramic bathtub filled with ice and bits of fresh fruit. We complete with a violet air.
